Obi-Wan thought that it was important for Siri to get acquainted with his student, Jack. At first Siri had resisted, she wasn't exactly what people called a people person. She was a hard person to get to know and the last thing she needed was to rub Jack the wrong way. If Obi-Wan and herself were to be in a relationship that meant Siri needed to make nice with his student. Despite her reservations, Siri eventually gave into Obi-Wan's persuasion. She eventually agreed to take the young Jack out into the less populated part of the planet under the guise of looking for some kind of beast that had been carrying off livestock. The mission was one that was below both of their pay grades but it offered them the opportunity to chat. Jack was a little more talkative than Siri was, but once they got on the topic of embarrassing stories about Obi-Wan's younger years the conversation picked up. That was where they found themselves as dusk began to settle.
"This is a good one too. I want to say fifteen years back your master and I were on a mission on this backwater planet with a bunch of other Padawans and young Knights. We'd just finished a big mission and had decided to take a night and camp out and enjoy nature. After we'd eaten we decided to start telling scary stories. Most of them were lame but I could tell Obi-Wan was getting a little scared," Siri grinned mischievously at the memory. "But after a while he and the other boy went into this shack to defecate. When they were in the middle of their business we ran to the shack screaming bloody murder about some wild animal in the woods. And I am not kidding when I tell you this...Obi-Wan burst out of the shack, without pants and ran through the woods. He had literally pulled his boots out of his pant legs and took off running. Thank the Force he had his undergarments and tunic otherwise..."
Siri snickered at the memory of Obi-Wan running through the forest, having left his pants far behind him. She hoped Jack would enjoy the story as well. That was one story Siri never wanted to let die...even if they had been teenagers at the time. By the time the story ended they had reached the ship. The blonde Jedi stretched her arms and glanced warily over at Jack. "Ready to head home?" Little did either of them know but they were being watched by a very dangerous enemy...

There had been a lot of teasing thrown at her master over the last few weeks. Upon meeting a woman Obi-Wan was apparently going to be in a relationship with, Jack had joked about it in a rather disrespectful matter. Despite her sometimes rude behavior, Jack did very much admire the older Jedi and was rather eager to get to know the woman he was interested in. Truth be told, it was possible to say Jack was a little bit overprotective of her master, determined to make sure the woman was good enough for her master. Obi-Wan seemed interested in having her get to know Siri as well, as he sent Jack out hunting with the older Jedi.
Things went a little awkward at first; Siri seemed to have some trouble warming to the ex-street rat's outgoing personality and un-Jedi like straightforwardness, but once they started talking about a younger Obi-Wan, Jack had fallen into silence as she listed to the funny stories about her master.
As Siri was just finishing up another story which sent Jack into another fit of laughter at the picture of her ever-calm master in such a ridiculous situation, the two were starting to prepare to return. They had found the beast and defeated it long ago, and were now packing up the swoop bikes. As they talked, Jack felt a familiar prickling at the back of her neck. Growing up in the slums of Coruscant had given her finely tuned senses to danger. In this instance, the Padawan ignored it, as they were out in the open fields of Dantooine. It was probably just another wild beast. Jack patted her lightsaber, not at all worried should the creature decide to attack.

While both Jedi were taking a stroll in the gardens and sharing stories and laughter, there was something awaiting them up ahead. Cloaking himself in the Force in a rare by a very much needed moment, the man in dark robes hid behind a set of tall trees. He had been wounded badly only a few days ago. His injuries were not healed altogether yet, but there was no time to wait for anything. So he had to make his move. Perhaps, setting a foot into Dantooine, where was a Jedi community with many of them crawling inside; seemed to be a suicide mission, Maul was willing to take that risk. He had to play it big, if he wanted to win this war against his arch-nemesis.
Pushing the thought of pain away, Maul finally made his way out of his hiding. With slow but strong steps, he came to block the path of both women. They were not random targets. Maul had studied his lesson well. He was after the women in Kenobi's life. He had every intention of turning his enemy's life miserable. After killing his lady friend, he was going to kill this other one. Of course, along with his new apprentice. Then Kenobi would know how terrible he was with keeping his women alive.
His boots were made of steel, yet he was all covered up in black robes. Even his face was covered with the large hood; hiding away his features altogether. His gloved hands were at his sides, relaxed. He didn't do anything threatening. This might be the perfect time to draw his lightsaber and attack the Jedi. Yet killing them was not his plan. Not right away.

Siri heaved her pack onto the swoop bike. They hadn't come across the beast but Siri still felt tired from a long day of walking and talking. Being around other people made her tired, even if the company was enjoyable. The day out had also been a good distraction from Obi-Wan. Not but a few days ago he had returned from a mission, severely injured at the hands of Darth Maul. Siri divided her time between Obi-Wan and trying to concentrate on things other than Obi-Wan. Having loaded her pack onto the back of the bike she stretched her arms and back. Contorting her spine and arms felt good and she soaked in the feeling with a smile.
"Ready to get going, kid?" Siri asked the padawan. "If we leave now we'll get back in time for dinner." Jack didn't answer. In fact she was looking around. Instantly Siri sensed something was wrong. Her eyes scanned the treeline for the creature they had been looking for to begin with. Behind them there was nothing but the woods and the tall grass that swayed in the wind. Still, the feeling that something was wrong did not go away. Siri had come to trust her gut feelings and was not about to shake it off. "You sense it too then?" She didn't need Jack to confirm it, she already knew the answer. Slowly, she turned back towards the bikes when something caught her eye. A tall black figure stood in the center of the road they had come in on. Siri froze, staring at the figure. This wasn't the beast carrying off livestock. Siri's hand reached back to her belt, casually resting near her lightsaber. Through the Force she felt nothing from the man, it was as if he wasn't there. This didn't ease her feelings at all, only make her feel worse.
Taking several large steps in front of Jack, Siri spoke to the man. "It's rude to sneak up on people," she commented with an edge of a threat on her words. She laced the following words with the Force in hopes she might be able to Jedi mind trick the man into leaving. "I suggest you turn around and leave." Siri hoped that her command would work but her gut told her that it wouldn't. It was for this reason that she had placed herself between Maul and the padawan.

It only took half a second for the dark cloaked man to pull up his lightsaber with a rather long handle, flick it on in a crimson laser and throw it at both women. While it was a dangerously close call for the older woman, it licked past her head; cutting off a few strands of blond hair in the meanwhile. But it wasn't that lucky for the padawan. The crimson lightsaber was stabbed right into the woman's chest, making her collapse without being able to say any words. She couldn't even scream in this sudden attack.
Stretching his hand forward the Sith Lord summoned his weapon back. And when the long hilt met with his gloved hand, the man was pushing his hood back to reveal his face. Red skin and black tattoos looked as a dangerous combination. A crown of horns was lined up around his head. But there was no smile in this face. He wasn't gloating about how easily he got rid of the padawan. Instead he flicked the opposite side of his saberstaff and held it in a battle ready position.
"If you surrender, I will not kill you." Maul said in a rather gentle tone, which wasn't expected from him. A hint of smug smirk touched his lips. There was no doubt the woman would know of who he was. Even if she didn't, that hardly mattered. Her opinion wasn't important. It was Kenobi who Maul was after. By killing his padawan and capturing his lady friend, Maul would be succeeded to make the Jedi's life miserable.

Everything happened so quickly. Since the man had cloaked his connection to the Force, Siri had no way of knowing what he actually was. The setting sun glinted off the hilt of the man's lightsaber. Immediately, Siri's eyes went wide and she leaped back. The ignited blade narrowly missed her. Panting she reached for her own saber when a sickening feeling hit her stomach. Jack! Quickly, she spun around to see the young woman standing there, with the saber in her chest. Siri screamed something but she didn't know what. Forgetting, her lightsaber she rushed to the girl's side. Siri gathered her into her arms, holding the girl up slightly. She wasn't dead, she could see her chest moving as she breathed. The girl needed medical attention, attention Siri could not give her. She was so focused on the injured girl in her arms she had momentarily forgotten the madman jsut beyond the two of them. "Hang in there, kid! You're going to be fine!" the words were desperate, and Siri hated it, hated feeling weak, hated that she hadn't protected Obi-Wan's padawan. Guilt washed over her as she remained at the girl's side.
"If you surrender, I will not kill you." Siri's head snapped back to the attacker. Her guilt was replaced by anger. Whoever this man was, he was going to pay for attacking a Jedi. Her eyes landed on the black and red man before her. Momentarily her anger and guilt were replacedwith shock and confusion. He was familiar to her now, not from a personal interaction but from Obi-Wan. After Qui-Gon's death he had described the Sith who had attacked them and taken his Master's life. This same Sith, who Obi-Wan had thought was dead, survived and lived to attack her love once again. He stood there now, his signature double bladed saber in hand. As the reality of what had happened sunk in, Siri felt red hot furry rush beneath her skin. Slowly, she put Jack down, still alive, and stood between him and Jack. She held out her hand and summoned the hilt of her lightsaber to her hand and ignited the purple blade. Her face remained controlled and she did not tremble in fear or anger but her eyes betrayed her feelings and Maul was sure to sense it. "That was a mistake," she told him with a deadly calm voice. His offer of survival in exchange for survival was far more generous than anything the Jedi was willing to offer him. "One you will not be able to walk away from." Siri shifted her stance, as if she were awaiting for his attack but she did not wait. Using the Force to make her move quickly she charged at him, swinging and blocking his blows. She wasn't going to let him near Jack and she wasn't going to let him live to hurt Obi-Wan again.

There was no visible reaction to the Jedi's choice of act. Maul was already expecting a fight. He wouldn't be satisfied with less. But he needed to be careful and keep the female Jedi alive. After all, he needed her alive for his plan. Though, her death wouldn't be a complete loss. Keeping her alive was the keyword. As long as she had a pulse, that would be good enough. Maul wasn't a gentle person in general
Holding his saberstaff before him, Maul activated both sides in a battle ready position with steel knees bent slightly and strong footing. His other hand was behind with palm open and parallel to the ground. He obviously had no second thoughts about the dying padawan. He couldn't be concerned any less than this. It was only another sore spot at Kenobi's side.
"Give me your best shot, Jedi." The Sith Lord aimed to aggravate his opponent. It wasn't a technique he used often. But there were some people in his list just for this. "Make one mistake and I'll take you down like your fallen friend."
Thus, Maul allowed the woman to make the first move. It was like a predator playing with his prey. He watched her as she rushed at him, then started to block her attacks. Both hands on the hilt of his saberstaff, Maul started to spin it like a scythe with each attack without breaking a sweat. His stance was calm and perfectly in control. He kept creating a neat red circle with his saberstaff, shifting it from hand to hand. In the meanwhile, he made no offensive moves; waiting and examining the she-Jedi's moves. He was studying her. But it had to end soon.
When he felt it being the right time, Maul pushed his saberstaff toward the Jedi and suddenly got closer to her than before. Moving his saberstaff over his head, he aimed a hard steel kick at the Jedi's side. Then there came another spinning kick and another. His baggy pants and ends of his tunic were spinning around him with every move, giving an idea of his momentum. His move was finished with one side of his saberstaff thrusted at his opponent, as he made sure to stab her in the shoulder instead of heart.

Siri managed to get him to step back. They were clear to battle while Jack stayed out of the way. Siri's attention shifted more fully to Maul. He activated both sides of his blade. Siri took a deep breath and continued her barrage of attacks. She focused intently on his movements. Unconsciously, her anger at what Maul had done to Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and now Jack fueled her movements. They were faster than normal, more frenzied. She wanted to see Maul suffer and die. She would gladly bring the man's horny head to Obi-Wan as a gift. "Give me your best shot, Jedi. Make one mistake and I'll take you down like your fallen friend." His words only aggravated her more, pushed her harder. She chuckled darkly and pushed herself more fully into the attacks, putting more strength behind the swings. It wasn't wise but it was all Siri could manage. She needed to keep Maul away from Jack and needed to kill him. What aggravated her more than his words was how calmly he took her attacks. How dare he act so smug and calm after hurting Jack?
In her fury she didn't expect his sudden shift from defense to attacking. His sharp kicks to her side hit hard and caused her to groan. She managed to dodge a few of them and block his blade. The last strike, however knocked her off balance which gave Maul the opening he wanted. His red blade plunged deep into her shoulder. Siri cried out in pain and dropped her lightsaber. Immediately afterwards she used the Force to shove him back. She stumbled backwards, hunched over and holding her shoulder with her free hand. Her eyes blazed with a rekindled anger that she didn't bother trying to surpress this time. There was no way she was going to let him get the better of her. Siri summoned her lightsaber to her good hand, holding it out defensively. The arm he had injured was dead. She wasn't going to be able to use it to fight but she still had one good arm left.
