This was not a distraction. In order to be distracted, he needed to have another task in his hand to stray away from it. But that wasn't the case. It had been only two weeks since he found himself in this completely different time and Brody Maxijimm Cibre absolutely had no job. It was unlikely for him to be a jobless and homeless person. After all, he always had so much potential during his educational life. But that was not the case either. Going back in time sort of erased one's past; which was actually the future. The matter wasn't as complicated as it sounded, yet Brody didn't find himself trying to rebuild what he had lost. Instead he was busying himself with personal tasks, which included him travelling around and discovering new facts about an old galaxy.
Not all of this was in textbooks.
Though, this one was a rumour; being whispered from ear to ear. Brody had heard of the story of the Headless Horseman back in school. It was a horror story to scare off kids. Some were scared to death. Some didn't believe in ghost stories. But Brody always had many questions about it. He wasn't the type to push away stories without analysing the facts. And now he found himself in the right era where this story first started, it was something worth to check out for.
He made a rather rough landing on Hypotria. It wasn't the biggest planet in the Mid Rim. But there was enough speculations to guess this was the right place to start with his little personal investigation. After turning off the engines, he started to dig through the small closet in his ship. It was all unorganised and he had to take care of it. But it had to wait. The investigation was calling for him.
After finally snatching his datapad and scanner, Brody found himself staring at the messy closet. It took a strong will to pry himself from it and shut the door close with a small growl. He was going to take care of it first thing, once he was done in Hypotria. He got out of his shuttle, while playing with his datapad in his hand. He had that story saved in this in detail. While there were a few versions to the story, they all had one common thing: A decapitated soldier was seeking for his lost head. He supposed it would be an easy thing to spot around.
The task ahead was simple. He was going to find people, get mingled and ask them about this headless man. Finding the village was not an issue. Though, Brody kept getting sidetracked by small animals he came across. He took his time to catalogue them. An opportunity was an opportunity. He made sure never to miss any. By the time he reached the village, the afternoon sun was being blocked by rain clouds. Thunder was crackling up in the sky, announcing of the upcoming storm. Brody didn't seem to care about the fact, as he started random conversations by random villages. Though, this approach wasn't getting him anywhere so far. While many people claimed they never heard of such thing, he could clearly see the fear in their eyes. They were lying, trying to cover up for something. And he was going to find out the truth.
As the rain started to pour suddenly and heavily, the villagers scrambled toward indoors. He was getting pretty soaked as well, as if he was taking a shower in public. Reaching his hand up to his forehead, Brody brushed long strands of hair from his forehead. Water was freely dripping from each hair. It was time to go and visit that tavern. So he could take some tea and ask around for the rumours.
At the door step, he shuddered visibly and ran both hands through his wet hair to comb it backward. His long face was revealed, along with his hollow cheeks. Then he offered the waitress a big smile. "You must have a cup of tea, yes?" Clasping his hands together, Brody gave even a bigger smile and spoke without waiting for an answer from the waitress. "Perfect! I'll be sitting over there and mingle." He pointed at the most crowded table he spotted, then actually headed there.

Rumors legends and folk stories. While there was often some element of truth to these things when they were told, even years after their origins; often times they differed from the truth considerably. Aldric Cibre suspected that was the case in this specific story of the so called Headless Horsemen. He hadn't been intending to come to the world of Hypotria, but had rather been returning home to Coruscant after another case to Alderaan, his homeworld in a different time. For some reason though the ship he had booked passage on was going in the opposite direction, and apparently picking up other passengers before it's return trip to Coruscant, and Hypotria had just been one of the stops along the long return. It wasn't a very well known planet, and it didn't seem to have much draw, but the ship he had booked passage on seemed to think it was a good enough planet to refuel on and allow crew members to rest for 24 standard galactic hours. Aldric was just happy he was getting a fairly cheap trip, and really couldn't complain about it if he had paid so little for it. He had been making a lot of cheap choices lately, and he would have to keep doing so until he had made a big enough name for himself to create a steady income for himself.
That was a task that Aldric was slowly getting under way, and he was already beginning to create a galactic reputation for himself, even if most of the population hadn't heard of him. His name was slowly getting out there enough that he could at least trust some form of income constantly enough that he would be able to rely on it for money... even if he wouldn't be working as much as he liked. He was still living in a dingy apartment building that was falling down around his ears, and his science equipment wasn't even on par with something you could find in a school... but it was a start. Albeit a far harsher start then he had had to go through when he had first started out on his own.
Normally though, he wouldn't have even left the shuttle during the rest period and stayed there over night. What drew his attention off the ship and to the world this time? Ironically instead of resting, he was investigating a bedtime story meant for little children. Specifically it was one Aldric remembered from his own childhood when his older Brother would make stories up to try and scare Aldric. This one though was apparently a legend of some kind, and not one of Brody's own inventions. Aldric, even at the young age hadn't really been scared of it, only researching the truth behind it, and even today recalled that he was now living in the time that the story had originated from... and when he heard one of the passengers mention said Horsemen... Aldric had to admit his curiosity was sparked. Apparently the story was only just now getting it's roots, which meant he might be able to still trace it back to what had really happened.
After all, he was sure there was some perfectly logical, scientific reason for why a man was seen running around without a head. Even if the force was involved. Unlike many purely logical minds; Aldric's father, Gunner Halos included, who thought that the force was nothing more then a myth itself, Aldric had witnessed with his own eyes that it did hold a power that was quite literal and not explainable through pure science. In reality he would be ignorant not to believe in the force, and so he did his best never to rule it out as a possible option for things that appeared to be supernatural in origins; this Headless Horsemen for example. However at the same time, he didn't rush to any conclusions or speculation either. It was a capital mistake to formulate a hypothesis before you had collected all of the facts. A mistake Aldric never made.
To actually investigate this Mysterious Horsemen though, Aldric had to locate the exact origin point of this story... where it had begun and why. Likely someone had died nearby, and from there stories began to spring forth, and there was any number of possibilities as to why this had happened... in fact Aldric had already run across a series of possible conclusions. Grieving loved ones not wanting to admit he was gone, people high one spice, etc etc, but again he refused to pick one and favor it over the others until he had collected facts and evidence that supported one and eliminated others. Already though there was a couple of facts he knew about, and he hadn't even stepped off his shuttle yet.
For one the man in legend was supposedly a soldier, yet to his knowledge there was no kind of battle on this world... which nearly eliminated that as a possibility, but not entirely. Also to his knowledge, Horses weren't native to this world as he was only aware of there existence on back water worlds that hadn't even been colonized, such as The Forest Moon of Endor. However that too he supposed could be changed if someone took the time out to bring one all the way out here, which meant that too could not entirely be eliminated as a possibility. The Likeliness of those possibilities though was limited, and on balance Aldric would have to say there was something more to this story that would later be changed through history and countless retelling of the story. It probably wouldn't change just because Aldric investigated it and would likely reveal the truth behind the story either.. but it was still a mystery that peeked his interest. If one didn't know Aldric better, they might even think it was a personal cause behind it.
When Aldric did finally step off the transport, he was making his way directly into the first village he could fine, enough money in his pocket to keep him comfortable and find a room for the night. He might not use it, but some spare credits were still useful. He had his coat collar turned up to the wind, the sun being blocked out by the thick clouds and the sound of life being interrupted by the heavy crackle of thunder in the sky. If this storm kept up, his shuttle might be stuck on the ground longer then he wanted it to be, but that would just give him more time to further his investigation. He had managed to make it into a tavern before the rain started up, wiping his feet the moment he got inside as he looked around, the dimly lit tavern looking to be rustic, even in the galaxy that otherwise was always up kept and technologically advanced. Aldric didn't mind either one, knowing technology had it's conveniences, but at the same time keeping things simple seemed to be something Aldric favored as well from time to time.
He smirked a little bit, seeing the bar and the man standing behind it. Always a nice place to look when someone was trying to find rumors. As he was sitting down, his back turned to the door it could be heard beginning to rain heavily outside. He sighed a bit, hanging his head at his timing. "Alderaanian ale, and it looks like i'll be taking that extra room." The Togruta Barmaid looked confused for a moment as she looked over to him, wondering perhaps how he knew there was still one room left. He sighed a bit, pointing out the obvious before she could even ask how he knew it. "There is a key, on the hook... right there..." He pointed to the final key sitting on the way, arching his brow a bit as if asking to make sure his reasoning was sound.
If Togruta's could blush, she probably would have, but she handed it over to him while Aldric got a portion of his credits out to pay for the room and the drink.
It was around that time the Togruta left the bar to go greet a new comer who had dashed in from the rain and asked for Tea. Aldric didn't even turn to look, but there was a familiarity to the voice, and a Coruscanti Accent much like his own. He arched his brow a bit, but shook the thought as he glanced around the bar, taking the moment with the Barmaid away to get a gook look behind the counter to see if there was anything of note back there. He would have to wait until she had a moment to ask her any questions about this little investigation anyway...

His eyes wandered around the tavern for the quickest moment, before he was actually heading at the table he pointed randomly before. A few men were sitting there and eating some gooey meal. It didn't smell that good either, but people had all interesting tastes for strange things. He wasn't one to judge. He had his own ridiculous guilty pleasures. But of course, that wasn't the reason he was here. Food talk could wait until he was satisfied with his investigation.
Settling down in between two grumpy looking men, Brody smiled mischievously at both from side to side and placed his hands on the old wooden surface of the table. None of them seemed to pay him attention with the exception of quick yet questioning glances at his way. But Brody didn't leave them wondering about his intentions for too long. In fact, he was rather quick with jumping to the point.
"So the Headless Horseman, huh?" He asked with a bright smile, poking his elbow to the eating man at his right. "Seeking for his head and killing people for it." He added, turning his face both ways to catch any reactions from both guys. But they seemed to be perfectly focused on consuming the gooey meal. Brody shifted his eyes at the sight of the questionable food, seeming distracted for a half second. But then he was wearing that amused smile on his face once again. "I heard he wears a pumpkin for a replacement. Now that'd be an interesting sight. Of all the options, a pumpkin... Wouldn't you agree?" Now he was leaning toward the other man now. But no one seemed to start talking with him so far.
It was then the waitress appeared at their table and placed a big mug of some dark drink before Brody. A few drops were spilled around with the impact. His green eyes were on the woman now, when she was the one breaking the silence. "A man was murdered two days ago. After midnight. In the forest." The waitress placed her hands on her waist and looked at Brody with a serious expression. "They say his wife saw everything. But she went insane after what she witnessed."
The waitress' words seemed to give a confidence boost in the other men. Now they were more willing to join the conversation. "Aye. She locked herself up in their cabin, hasn't stepped out since the incident." The man in Brody's right added, finally not stuffing his face with the strange food.
Brody arched a brow at these new information, knowing where his next step would be taking him at. But he didn't throw himself out of the tavern yet. He still had a big mug of this weird smelling tea like drink. Taking it in his hand, he brought it to his nose and sniffed. Yes, it did smell funny. But he didn't take a sip yet. Instead he was looking at the waitress. "Was there any pumpkin involved?" He asked probably the most meaningless thing in the end. The waitress shook her head and walked away from the table. And the men in the table were now looking at him.
It was then he sipped from the drink and made a face. But then he was giving an approving nod.

He was still peering over the back of the bar when he heard the voice of the Barmaid again. She was still wandering around among the crowd of people, but he could still tune everyone else out and hear her specifically. The word murder after all, was music to Aldric's ears. Oh yes he did love a good mystery. He smirked a bit, turning around finally to see who she was talking to, stowing the key for the room as he walked into the crowd as well. He stalled though when he saw who it was she was talking to, giving the information to a man who seemed to have a similar stature to that of himself. His eyes narrowed a little bit, knowing almost instantly that the man was someone Aldric knew all too well. First it had been father, and then Quinn, and now him too? Was everyone he knew trying to come back to haunt him mercilessly?
Aldric Groaned to himself, retracting himself into his coat collar a little as if he could hide behind it, before he continued to inch closer to the table to continue listening to the conversation that was being held among the men and the barmaid. He listened for a moment, rolling his eyes at the obvious, but not announcing himself yet. Really? They were declaring the woman as insane after only two nights? He wanted to scream at all of these people for jumping to conclusions like that. All the same he remained silent, giving a small sigh to himself as he let them continue speaking, preferring to let them get as much information out before he interrupted.
But it turned out there was still a witness, which meant he would have a place to start when he picked up his investigation. When it became clear he wouldn't be getting a whole lot more from the conversation he stepped in, speaking smoothly and in a quickened pace. "It's been two nights, She's not insane she's grieving and trying to rationalize something that can't be true." He said, not bothering to actually announce his entrance at all as he moved closer to the table, keeping a steady pace to his strides. "At any rate, even insane people rationalize things certain ways, you just need to know how to read it. Would you mind pointing me in the right direction? I need to know the woman's name, and the location of the murder." He said, not bothering to actually give his name still. He shot a smug look to his brother though, as if almost challenging him to come up with a better idea that would take this case in a different direction. He walked casually around the table, looking to the Togruta once more, waiting for her to give him the directions... which she was writing down, though she was clearly baffled at his questions and his confidence.
She passed him a small paper with the information he required on it, and then looked between them all. Aldric took the piece, reading it and then glancing out the window with a small sigh... seeing how they would still have to wait the rain out. Wonderful... that meant he would have to put up with his brother.

Any normal siblings would be sharing smiles, even a hug and then ask for each others' well beings in this case. After all, the timeslip was an unexpected thing for anyone. And there was a high chance not both of them would end up in the same thing. Yet there was nothing normal about their relationship. Instead of all these, Aldric was making a flashy entrance with trying to prove how smart he was, showing off to the men on the table and giving Brody a smug smirk. In return the older brother shot back a serious glare at Aldric. His expression showed a certain displeasure. But there was a childish offending, also. Shifting his eyes a little, Brody interrupted his brother's self-ramblings.
"Excuse us, but we were in the middle of something here. They were about to tell me about this pumpkin head replacement." He snapped, while still keeping a gentle tone.
The man in his right shook his head. "There's no pumpkin."
Brody gave the man a very disappointed face, like he just crushed all his dreams and future at once with a simple word. But then his dark green eyes were turned at his brother, who managed to get the address on a paper. Brody made no move in order to snatch it from his brother's hands. They bickered, but their arguments were never in the physical level.
"How are you planning to talk to a woman in pain, little brother?" Brody asked after a short sigh, making deep lines appear on his forehead. His hair was parted at the side and now falling over one cheekbone. "You have zero communication skills and will only make her pain worse with your wrong attitude and direct questions." He stated how he didn't approve of Aldric visiting the widowed woman. "I..." Brody chose a rather cocky tone now, challenging his little brother. He also placed an elbow against the eating man's shoulder, as if they were best friends. The man said nothing, though; not even protesting this sudden act. He possibly didn't mind it at all.
"... will do the talking, while you watch and learn." He smiled at Aldric and grabbed his mug of tea, drinking it up to the last drop. Once he was finished, he placed it on the table and pushed himself up to his feet. Rain or not, he was going to visit this lady. It was another challenge. A dare to get soaked in the heavy rain.

After Aldric's introduction Brody was honestly still worried about the Pumpkin? Really? Aldric had to sigh a bit, hanging his head a little as the other man didn't even have to say a word in order for Aldric to know there was nothing to do with a pumpkin in this case. No doubt that would be something that came into the legend over the course of history and thousands... millions of telling and re-telling. If he was entirely honest though he was kind of surprised that it hadn't been something of Brody's own invention just to scare the younger Aldric.
Still he had to smirk just a bit at the disappointment on his older brother's face when he heard that what he had believed about the headless horsemen of legend wasn't entirely true. After a moment Brody was actually turning the conversation back to Aldric, which in itself Aldric took as a good thing. At least he wasn't childishly ignoring Aldric's very existence. He arched his brow a bit at Brody's question, asking how Aldric even planned to talk in a civil way to a person who was going through such a loss. Aldric narrowed his eyes a little into a glare at his brother, the look being almost venomous in itself.
"I can act." Aldric eventually spoke, revealing a skill that Brody perhaps didn't know he had had before. When Brody continued there was a hint of pride to the man's voice, taking it upon himself to talk to the widowed woman who had witnessed the man's death. It seemed Brody had a better idea of where to start then Aldric did then? Fair enough. Aldric went silent, watching his brother move around a little, finishing his tea as Aldric casually folded the piece of paper in his hand and slid it away inside his jacket pocket. It was so subtle that apparently even the overly observant eye of his older brother had totally missed it. Or maybe Brody was just getting careless in his old age. Aldric smirked a bit, preferring to believe in the latter of the two options.
Brody from that point moved away from the table, announcing that he would talk to the man's former wife as he was making his way towards the door to leave the tavern. Aldric's expression at first was one that looked as though he was disgruntled that Brody was butting in on his investigation... trying in effect to take it from him. Some of the Patrons were watching the banter between the two of them, most of their eyes being on Brody as he made his flashy exit. No sooner then he heard the door close again (Aldric's back being turned to it) a smirk pulled at his lips as he rolled his tongue inside his mouth a little.
He wondered how far and how wet Brody would get before he realized Aldric was the one with the address. He said nothing though, pulling the paper out again to re-read it, taking the information in his head that he needed before he turned to the Togruta Bar Maid once more.
"When was the whether supposed to clear up?" He asked, tilting his head a little, but so very clearly proud of himself for at least in a very small extent pulling the wool over his brother's eyes.

Brody was smiling and shaking his head in a refusing fashion, when Aldric claimed he could act. The elder brother naturally didn't believe that and he didn't even feel the need to make a comment on that. After all, his little brother had a way with seeing himself in delusional terms at times. This was one of them.
Making sure of placing enough credits onto the table to pay for the interesting flavoured tea he drank, Brody spun on his heels and headed toward the door. He exited without even thinking or worrying about the rain, not even looking back. He steps were long and quick on the muddy ground, as he kept walking forward. He was so sure Aldric was following him like an obedient duckling. The storm wasn't getting any better. The rain was actually getting thicker and thicker, the lightning brightening the dark sky for a short second from time to time. The thunder was pretty loud, almost shaking the ground under his feet.
After another loud thunder, Brody came to a stop and paused in where he was standing. He was completely and ultimately soaked, feeling no difference than having a shower with his cloths. As he turned around, he expected to see his annoying little brother not being there. And he wasn't wrong. He gave an overly dramatic sigh and headed back to the tavern with furious steps.
While Aldric was holding a conversation with the waitress, the very soaking figure appeared by the door. The liquid proof of the storm was dripping from his whole body, already creating a small sized pool around his feet. Not only his face looked as if he just washed his face, but his hair was plastered to one side of his face in a rather comical way. But Brody didn't look any pleased.
"Why are you not following me, Aldric? You are supposed to follow me." He said, his face didn't have any attempts to hide away his annoyed mood. Aldric was actually supposed to follow him, since Brody was the older and the smarter one. He was naturally the leader here in these terms. He was in charge. Grabbing the end of his own jacket, Brody squeezed it. Almost two glasses of water splashed down with the act. He was getting cold, too; but he managed to hide the fact. "If you are afraid of a little rain, just give me the address and I'll handle this alone. You can hide in here until the weather is cleared. Mother wouldn't want you to catch a cold." It was a childish way to challenge the other, yet it was the common thing in between them.

The waitress looked between Aldric and the door for a moment, having watch Brody's over confident exit but after a second was stuttering out her answer. "A couple hours maybe... the storms can get bad this time of year though. I heard departures were cancelled." She explained, much to Aldric's dismay, but he nodded in agreement as he looked around for a moment, eventually letting his eyes fall to his chrono meter and count the time that his brother was gone in the rain before he turned back around and realized both that Aldric wasn't following and that he didn't have the address with himself. In the mean time he just went back to the bar getting his drink as he took a sip from it once more and sighed heavily into the air.
"Well then i will be here for a night, gives me plenty of time to solve this case though." He explained, mostly just talking out loud to no one in particular anymore.
It was around that time that Brody again entered into the room, standing there by the door looking very displeased with Aldric, but he didn't exactly care, just holding a smug look that met with Brody who was just standing there at the moment. The question that was flung in Aldric's direction only warranted a blank look, narrowing his eyes a bit as he gave an overly thoughtful look. After a second he smirked, holding his finger out as if to ask for a moment of time. "Ohhh wait! You need me? I thought you were just bragging on solving this case on your own?" Aldric smirked a bit, making sure the address was still safely tucked away inside his jacket pocked.
Brody continued, trying to get under Aldric's skin now as he mentioned their mother, but he tried to brush it off, starting to close the gap between the two of them as he swerved in and out between the tables that kept them separate. "I would loooooove to see you do this on your own sense..." His tone was shifting now, but instead of his quick, faster then thought speech patterns he was almost elegant and speaking in a sing-song voice. "Iiii'm the one with the addddddress." He said, holding a smirk over his face as he almost challenged his brother to try and take it from him. Of course neither of them would actually get physical. Their banter was always intellectual and mental torture, simply trying to push the other to frustration.

Brody was arching both of his brows at Aldric's statement of how he was seeking for the other's help. His lips were pulled up in a big smile, like he was actually amused. "Whaaat?" He was laughing now and shaking his head. "Nooo. Hahaha. Funny. No." Suddenly, he was dead serious. "No." His eyes were shifted, then Brody removed some stray hair being plastered over his forehead; combing it backward with long and skinny fingers. "How foolish for you to believe I need your help. Just the address." He cleared out the misunderstanding. Though, deep inside he knew it wasn't a misunderstanding. Aldric was trying to prove his worth and intelligence with such use of words. It wasn't anything else.
The paper with the location wasn't in Aldric's hands now. Though, even he held it visibly, Brody would still prefer to have his little brother hand it to him willingly. Physical ways of solving things were never that satisfying.
Then Aldric started to approach closer to Brody with that cocky smile in his face. The sing-song voice was childish, indeed. Many people would roll their eyes at such a gesture. But Brody was actually taking it for serious. He was annoyed. Period.
"Do you want this case solved or not?" He asked, wiping his face with the back of his hand. Though, that didn't help him drying up much; since he was soaked from head to toe. "Just give me the address and the mystery unfold before our eyes..." Sighing, Brody waited for Aldric to head for the door first. He wasn't going to fall into same mistake again.

Aldric arched his brow a little, listening to Brody as he began taking this so lightly for a moment, laughing loudly so that the attention in the room continued still to be on the duo of brothers. Aldric's expression wasn't at all impressed either, and soon enough Brody was turning the conversation around more seriously, explaining as harshly as he could in such a public setting that he actually didn't need Aldric's help with any of this involving the case. His eyes narrowed as he looked to his older brother, taking that of course as a challenge. How else was he supposed to take something like that anyway?
In this small moment it was clear to any onlookers what kind of brotherly relationship the two of them had. It was made up of nothing but sibling rivalry, and it was a childish feud at that. One that neither of the boys had ever outgrown, and now it was apparent in their interactions that perhaps it really wasn't possible at all for the two boys not to verbally and mentally butt heads with each other. Even when it came to something like this that was totally work related; other people, cases and murderers involved, it seemed the two of them would be doomed to just forget about everything else and focus instead on their own prideful dealings.
At least until Brody reminded Aldric that there was actually a case here that needed to be solved. Aldric's eyes narrowed as he glared with a stare into Brody's own eyes. There really was no way around it if this case was to be solved one of them would have to grow up and take care of it, but it seemed Brody wanted to be the one who dealt with it. Aldric stood up a little straighter, nodding a bit as if he had just done the growing up and was willing to act like an adult. "I was here first, i lead the case." Aldric said, as if he was trying to strike some sort of a deal with his brother. With that he took a step around Brody, but called back to the bar maid from over his shoulder. "I still will be needing that room, so don't trade it away." He commented, making for the door as he opened it, still keeping the note paper away from his brother.
He opened the door and stood under the tier that allowed him to remain dry for a moment. The rain was pouring down heavily, causing the road to become muddied. That meant tracks would be impossible to read, which wasn't something Aldric was fond of. He pulled his coat collar up around his neck and buttoned up his coat in the front, though there was nothing protecting his head from the rain. "You remember your stupid looking umbrella? NOW would be a good time for it." Aldric said with a small grumble to his voice before he stepped off the porch and into the weather that didn't seem to greet them.

The scenery was better than any shows on holonet for the people in the tavern. Two adult men were bickering back and forth. It was as good as a sitcom. So all eyes were remained on them. While there seemed to be a moment of agreement in between two brothers, it was quickly ruined with the darker one claiming how he came here first. No, it wasn't a long lived adulthood. Brody rolled his eyes at that and shook his head in disapproval.
"Nonsense. Such a foolish reason to claim the case." He said in return, as if he saw the childishness of this situation. Then quickly added, but his claim wasn't any better either. "I'm older than you, so I have every right to lead this." A few men looked at each other with that, one was shaking his head.
This time Aldric was taking the first step outside and making a rather rude remark about Brody's favourite fashion accessory. The older brother gave an overly dramatic offended face at that. Of course, Brody's umbrella wasn't just an umbrella. Not only it made him look like a perfect gentleman and protect from the rain, it was able to open just anything; giving him unlimited access to anywhere. The universal key. But sadly, he no longer had it.
"Excuse me, but I had no time to pack up before coming here." He said in defense. Of course, he wasn't just talking about his arrival on Hypotria. It was the timeslip. It happened without any warning, so Brody was parted ways with his precious possessions. He was missing his umbrella the most.
As both brothers stepped outside and left the tavern, the civilians there watched them with mixed feelings. "Weirdos..." One man said and the other nodded. "Yeah. Very much so."
Not worried about getting soaked at this point, Brody stepped next to his little brother and smiled to him; then eyeing the muddy path ahead of them. "So which way, Al?" He asked with his widening smile. Of course, he already knew how much Aldric hated any short versions of his name.

Aldric smirked a little bit as he glanced over to Brody at his defense of his stupid looking Umbrella and how he had been unable to keep it with him. Aldric on the other hand hardly ever parted with his own version of the universal key, it being lightweight and portable, which meant it had been much easier for him to drag it through the time slip with himself. He reached into his coat pocket, tossed it up into the air and caught it as it tumbled end over end back down. "Shame, i managed to keep mine." Aldric taunted a little bit, putting the Universal Key back in the coat pocket once more before he was taking a glance once more back around the area again.
It was then that Brody continued the little bickering once more, having stepped into the rain with Aldric as he looked to him and commented about the direction they needed to go in. That wasn't what plucked at Aldric's nerve though, and Brody knew it all too well. Instead of using his full name though, Brody had shortened it to a single Syllable as if it was some kind of a pet name for him. Aldric turned slow and deliberately to face his brother, eyes narrowing as he locked them with his brother in a glare that wasn't blocked out by the rain. "Smug really doesn't suit you, Maxy." Aldric said in reference to Brody's middle name. Brody seemed to defend it tooth and nail, even if Aldric thought that particular middle name was preposterous. Clearly their mother had been the one to pick out their names for them.
Still he hoped it tugged at one of his brother's nerves too before he was turning on his heel a little and beginning to lead the way, intentionally NOT telling Brody where they needed to go just so he could continue leading the way to the location that the Waitress had given him. It was his childish way of saying he was still in the lead of this case whether Brody liked it or not.

Aldric's next move was showing off with the very item his elder brother gifted him, picking it off from his pocket and tossing it up. Perhaps, Brody could ruin Aldric's happy moment with shooting his hand forward to catch it in the air before the younger sibling. But he didn't, just giving a light shake of his head at this act. It was a good thing one of them had the key, at least. If Brody ever needed one, he now knew where to get it. Of course, he wouldn't ask nicely for borrowing it for a period of time. He would just take it as he wished from under his brother's nose. It wasn't like Aldric would realise it until it was too late.
There was a knowing smile in Brody's face, when Aldric gave him an intense glare. He was almost breathing fire. That was the kind of look Brody enjoyed to give to his little brother. Though, there happened to be a counter-attack with a bad short version of his middle name. Giving a shocked expression with open mouth, Brody gave the exact same glare he received before. Only, his was overly dramatised. But there was nothing to say. So he didn't.
Then Aldric was finally stepping into the rain to lead the way. Bringing both ends of his completely soaked jacket, Brody tried to cover himself for more heat. But it was not possible in his wet state. Rain kept pouring over them. The lightning was brightening the sky at times, blinding them for the shortest moments. Brody started to feel cold, but he played it cool. Then he found himself being distracted by the very reason of their time on this planet.
"Isn't it exciting?" He finally spoke and not bickering for once. "We are about to solve the mystery about the pumpkin head." Brody seemed to be stuck in the wrongest detail, even if it was denied by the villagers.

His coat was closed around himself tightly, Aldric having done up the buttons in the front well before he even stepped into the rain. The two of them walked on into the muddy streets for a while, silence falling in between the two of them after Aldric had made his comment back to Brody. He had to sneer a little though. Without a reaction (besides the overly dramatic look on his brother's face) Aldric couldn't actually gauge how well his improvised comeback had rattled Brody's cage. Then again if it had shocked him into silence then that too was just as good to Aldric's ears.
He was about to make some kind of ill witted comment about having preformed a miracle in silencing his brother, but Brody was speaking by this time after the silence between them had seemingly grown unbearable. That was fine, Aldric would use it later. With that he let his brother speak, showing his enthusiasm for the case. Aldric was about to turn, a small look of excitement on his own face. Oh yes he did love a good mystery, and this one was certainly one of the many interesting ones he had faced off against. But his brother ruined the moment when he turned back to the one fact that both of them had to know was false. Aldric only hung his head a bit with a small grumble, continuing on. "There was no pumpkin!" He replied back finally, showing some exasperation in that point. Perhaps because this was hitting somewhat close to home with the stupid bedtime storied that his brother used to tell.
"You probably made that up to give me nightmares!" He added after a moment, tugging at his coat collar after a few moments to insure it was still up against the rain, though really it wasn't doing much good. He was probably doing it just so he could draw some of his attention away from his brother if he was at all honest with himself. Which he wasn't. All the same Aldric continued to move on at a brisk pace with his brother still following just behind and to his left. Eventually the two of them were moving closer to the edge of the town, Aldric knowing the house was getting closer the further out of the town the went.

Brody came to the point of giving up to get any kind of protection from the rain. He was very well aware things couldn't get worse than this. All his cloths were soaked terribly and it would take hours for him to dry up altogether. He was shivering up a bit, but his mind seemed to be distracted with other things now. Of course, Aldric had to ruin it with his negative view at everything.
Brody gasped in denial, his expression was already showing he wasn't just going to accept that kind of reasoning. "How can you eliminate the possibility without fully examining the facts?" Brody was already arguing, seeming a bit too insistent about this pumpkin detail. "This is why you are so blind to solve anything right. You dismiss facts so easily. Shame on you. He rose his index finger and pointed it at Aldric accusingly. "And I did not make up it. I heard it from another person." It was true there were many versions to this story and everyone was adding to it in order to make it a better horror story. Of course, Brody had added a few details himself; such as the horse being on fire. But the pumpkin head was certainly not his doing.
He couldn't help with a crack of smirk, when Aldric mentioned about nightmares, though. His argument face was already gone in a moment. "Oh, it did give you nightmares, didn't it?" Now the older brother was smiling wider and a tad thoughtful as if he was recalling their younger days as very intelligent kids. Then he chuckled in silence and shook his head. "Good times."
Soon they were heading toward even a worse road, where the puddles were getting deeper and nastier. Brody had to watch out for his steps, so he wouldn't end up knees deep in a puddle of mud. This walk was taking too long and they were getting away from the village too far. The sky was already dark due to the storm, but the sun was soon to rise down. Brody had to ask the obvious.
"Are we there yet?"
