It was Mother Talzin's vision which brought him here back to Dathomir. She was a powerful witch, who could contact to Maul, even when he was unconscious. All she did was to help both brothers and now she seemed to have plans to reunite them once again.
The first time was Savage searching for a fallen Maul in Lotho Minor after spending long years like a beast underground. He had cheated death, but still managed to survive. If it wasn't for Mother Talzin and Savage, Maul could still be living in shadows; too buried in his deep melancholy and depression. But this time it was Maul's turn to find his brother, once again with the help of Mother Talzin's directions. The situation was not the same. Maul had witnessed his brother die by the hands of his former master. He was there to hold Savage's hand, as he gave away his last breath. And it was the worst thing he ever experienced, scarring him inside. His brother was the only person he ever seemed to care for.
Yet Maul trusted Mother Talzin. He was aware she was not the one to joke or trick him. And she had enough mystic powers to bring Savage back from the death. He believed in that. It was why he traveled to Dathomir with no questions asked, using his recently stolen cargo ship. It was not too big, but certainly fast enough to be there to meet his brother.
Once his ship landed, Maul jumped off to the ground and wandered around aimlessly in the planet. He was trying to focus on the Force to feel him, to find his location. And he could already feel him. It was faint, but certainly there. So Maul allowed the Force to guide him.

Was it possible to have nightmares in death? perhaps his torment was not over. Over and over again the vision of his death played before him, wanting to protect his brother and make him happy before the cloaked stranger that Maul had called master but it was useless. Savage's skills had been too unrefined to make a difference, the attempt had cost him his own life...or so he had thought, "Brother, I am an unworthy apprentice...I'm not like you, I never was" had been his final words to his brother as the life and Mother Talzin's magic had poured out of him just like his own blood and then everything was dark.
Suddenly Savage's eyes flew open and he cried out from fear, how was this possible? he was still alive? He looked himself over and felt his chest where the cloaked stranger's blades had pierced him, there was nothing and he looked at his cybernetic arm...it was still there. He didn't understand it but it seemed like he had been gifted a second chance to make his brother happy, someone had taken pity on him. Savage sat up and looked around him, the landscape was familiar to him...he was home. "How can this be?" he said to himself as he stood but inside he felt he already knew the answer, Mother Talzin had preserved his life...he felt it. Even know though he could hear nothing he felt her voice inside his head, "Seek out Maul, for he is here" therefore Savage knew what his purpose was. What was uncertain would be his brothers reaction to seeing him alive again, both Ventress and Dooku had always punished him severely for his failure. They had taught him that failure brings pain in the ways of the Sith so Savage readied himself for any wrath his brother might have, unlike his previous two masters Savage was not resentful of any pain his brother might cause him for all he wanted was to be worthy of Maul.
Now his search began...

There was no new signal from Mother Talzin. She was no longer guiding him for directions, but that was alright. She had helped Maul enough. He could take care of the rest himself. All the time they spent together, side by side and as master and apprentice; Maul was able to get familiar with Savage's imprint in the Force. All he needed was to follow the trail.
Closing his yellow eyes for a moment, Maul took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes, he turned his head at a certain direction; expression more determined than before. He knew where exactly he needed to go. It was one of the hidden locations of Nightbrothers, not shared with outsiders. It would make sense for Mother Talzin to bring him here. Dathomir was the very location where everything started. It kept leading to new starts. This was another one. Maybe it was in their bloodline to avoid endings at all costs.
The lead through the Force became more and more powerful, then Maul knew he was getting closer. He already made his way out of the woods and now reached to a plain area with hills and rocks ahead. In the meanwhile, Maul made his presence in the Force more visible. So Savage would know he was coming for him and it would be another lesson for his apprentice. It didn't matter if anyone else sensed it in Dathomir. Whoever tried to stop him would meet a bloody end.

His home was both Familiar and different at the same time, he was in the right sport where the Night Brothers had been living but there was nothing here...no village, had the Jedi and the republic destroyed it? He wandered around searching for any clue that Maul might have been here but he could feel none, his skills in the force were not honed enough for many skills since most of his training had been spent helping his brother take control of Mandalore. To be honest he'd had very little actual training from any of his masters but as long as he was useful to his brother he was content. He attempted to quiet his mind and stop looking but rather start feeling, he closed his eyes and furrowed his brow as he tried to concentrate. At first there was nothing but darkness and then he felt something.
It was faint at first, like a dying glow rod shining through a veil from a great distance but then it began to get brighter and closer. He felt Maul's presence nearby and it was reassuring, he let the force guide his steps and opened his eyes. Each of his long strides brought more and more confidence into his pace, the cloaked stranger had not killed his brother, perhaps Savage's death had been useful to his brother after all by giving him a chance to escape. Before he even realized it Savage was approaching the edge of the forest, he felt Maul was very close by but still out of sight. "Brother?" he called out expecting a response but receiving none, in his excitement he'd lost concentration and he needed to regain focus. He closed his eyes again and tried to bring back the feeling that led him here, it was easier this time and the warm glow of the Dark side might as well have been an arrow pointing the way for him.
Only a few steps and Savage finally laid eyes on his brother, it was apparent that Maul had survived the battle intact. "Brother! you're here!" Savage exclaimed but then regained himself and knelt before Maul, "I failed you brother, I was unworthy of being your apprentice".

It was true there was no sight of Nightbrothers. Maybe they didn't even exist in this timeline. It didn't make a difference for Maul. He wasn't here for them. He was here for a former Nightbrother, now a Lord.
The presence of Savage was even nearer now, maul could feel him not far away. Then there came the voice, calling his name. Perhaps, Maul could answer and guide Savage by his voice. But he chose not to. This was a lesson after all. Without words, he leaded his brother at his way through the Force. Savage could be very rough with this skill. But this would make a good start to shape that, even if it delayed their reunion for a bit. But he had already waited for months. He could surely wait for a few more minutes.
Maul stopped and stood there, expecting Savage to find him alone at this point. His wait didn't last for long, though. Only in a few moments the tall figure of his brother appeared at his sight, running at him with some form of excitement. But then Savage obviously tried to control himself, pausing before Maul and going down on one knee; bowing his head like an obedient apprentice.
Maul was silent for the while, watching the older and taller one with careful yet neutral eyes. Even if Savage was expecting rage and violence from Maul, it never came. A gloved hand was placed on Savage's shoulder in a comforting way. This was the closest thing they would have to a hug or brotherly affection in between them. "No, brother." Maul spoke in a low but smooth tone, as if there was nothing to forgive. "It wasn't your fault. We were merely outmatched." He spoke of their three-way duel against his former master, Darth Sidious. Maul knew they had no chance against him before the fight started. After all, he was too familiar with with the old man's skills to know the result. He was trained by Sidious for years personally and he was probably the only person Maul feared of fighting against. But running away would never be an option, once Sidious found them. And none of them could run. Killing Savage was only a show off in the old man's eyes, leading Maul into a rage ridden but desperate fight. He wasn't proud of how it ended, but again Maul never had much of pride. It wasn't in his nature.
"I couldn't protect you." As the master, it was his responsibility to provide protection in dire times. "It won't happen again."
Finally taking his hand off Savage's shoulder, Maul unclipped the saberstaff from his belt; now offering it at his brother.

Savage was relieved when his brother's hand came bearing not pain but comfort. Had it been Ventress or Dooku he might have been chocked or electrocuted, He looked up at his brother who had recovered Savage's light staff. Taking the weapon with his metallic fingers Savage rose to his full height and clipped the weapon on to his belt, "How did you escape Brother? that man's power was incredible, like a force of nature" Savage did not like to admit to anyone, especially himself, that he was afraid but fighting the old man had been like a child thrown into a rancor pit.
"How did we get home? what happened to the village?" he was aware that Maul had probably never seen their home before, he'd been given away as an infant to that old man they had fought for Sith training. This was obviously Dathomir but something about it felt different, it was hard to tell what precisely. They would need to come up with a plan if they were to survive, as a Night brother Savage had never been outside the village until recently and his brother was far more experienced in the ways of the force so Savage would follow his lead.

Maul could feel his brother's obvious tension dissolving under his comforting hand. It wasn't difficult to guess he was waiting for violence in their reunion, possibly due to his experience with his former masters. Maul didn't question it, though. Savage's previous masters no longer mattered, since now Maul was his only master.
As Savage rose up tall and strong with his saberstaff in hand, Maul wasn't sure if he needed to give all details to how he survived from Darth Sidious. "I didn't escape." He answered simply. He was too furious of Savage's death to run away. Instead Maul stayed and chose to fight against his former master, trusting his rage to give him the superior hand. But it didn't progress that way. "Not for a while." The old man managed to take Maul down and bring him to a high security prison. After many sessions of torture, he finally broke free. Or at least he thought so back then. But in truth all was planned by Sidious to lead Maul to Mother Talzin. Maul never believed in luck. But if there was such a thing, then he had none of it as how the rest of events tend to unfold. In the end, he lost many things. He was almost left alone with a bunch of his mercenaries. But here they were, starting a new beginning in a completely new timeline.
Bringing both his hands behind, Maul started to take slow steps back and forth. A thoughtful expression was on his face. "That old man was my former master. I thought we could take him down together, but I was wrong." Maul's voice was almost silky now, unexpected from his devilish looks. "We can't afford to face him again. Not without a plan and enough allies behind us." Though, Maul wasn't planning to try taking down Sidious another time. He already went after him once with the aid of Mother Talzin and he failed miserably. His new plan was to avoid Darth Sidious at all costs from now on.
Then Savage was asking him about the village and how they arrived here. Pausing in his tracks, Maul glanced around; then turned his face to his brother. "Mother Talzin brought us here. To Dathomir. To the past." And this was not Flow-Walking. They were actually and physically in past years now. Then Maul gave a small yet devilish smirk at Savage. "So we start a new page." They would build the Shadow Syndicate from scratch again. It wasn't an easy task, but together they could manage it.
