APPEARANCE

Height: 5'8''
Weight: 176 lbs
Eyes: His eyes are mostly yellow, but shifts through an orange red in the outer circles.
Hair: None. He has a set of sharp horns circling around his head instead.

Overall Appearance:

Maul has red skin, which is covered in many black tattoos. They are not just in face, but also surrounding every bit of his body as well. (Or whatever left of it anyway.) Maul has sharp tipped horns covering around his head. It's obvious he trims them to keep up with the shape. Otherwise they will keep growing upward. His eyes are originally red, but due to his link to the dark side of the Force, there is a certain yellow in them. Yet the red circles are still around the yellow. His teeth look pretty much the same colour as his horns, which is a feature of his race.

His body isn't overly buff like his brother. When compared to Savage, Maul has a more slender look. But he is still nicely toned and his hard training shows up with every inch of his body. He is strong and athletic, also very acrobatic. Very flexible, too. He doesn't need a weapon to kill others.

After the certain incident of being cut into two, Maul lost his lower body from waist down. After going through phases of cybernetic construction, now the difference can't be seen much. His cybernetic lower half of the body looks very fitting and doesn't have any obvious differences from his original body; with the exception of it looking completely metal. But he wears large pants which goes down to his knees. His cybernetic calves remind of heavy metal boots, while they are not really boots. For the rest of his cloths, he always wear black. (Although, there was a period he didn't wear anything at all.) His choice of clothing is mostly Sith Lord cloths. While he used to wear the large robes with the hood, when he used to serve for Sidious; he doesn't continue with the Sith robes anyore.

PERSONALITY

Maul is a ruthless killer at first glance. And that will not change, once he is looked closer. He isn't a man of mercy and good will. But this is the way he was raised, to become a living weapon. Thus, he doesn't get emotions involved in his affairs. We can say he doesn't have a heart. But everyone does at some point. Beside the ruthlessness in his nature, Maul tends to care for only two people. While he doesn't actually show it in an obvious way, he cares for his brother and mother. Do not get him wrong. He isn't a misunderstood character. Maul is what he is. He never tries to hide his true nature. There is simply no reason to.

Revenge plays a big part of his life and personality. There is a list of people he wants to face off and slaughter. Of course, the very first one is Obi-Wan Kenobi for obvious reasons. He is the man who cut Maul into two and made his next twelve years miserable. While Maul survived, his hatred toward Kenobi kept him alive. All those years, Kenobi was all Maul could think of; which leaded him into deep depression, insanity and melancholy. Secondly, he has a whole hatred toward his former master. But there is also fear involved in Darth Sidious' case. Maul knows how powerful and ruthless his former master is. He is no match for him. As much as he wants his revenge, Maul isn't foolish enough to go against Sidious all alone.

While Maul shows an aggressive look for the most part (and he is), he is a master strategist and doesn't always act upon instinct. He knows how to plan out things beforehand and be patient to play. But when things get too personal, he can't keep up with it. He needs to be reminded of his priorities. But there isn't a lot of people around him for support.

During his time as an apprentice of Darth Sidious, Maul proved to be the perfect student. He never questioned any orders and did the best in every mission. He even admired and felt an attachment toward Sidious. But now his former master destroyed every string in between them, he is no longer that obedient person. His loyalties lie with only himself.

His relation with brother is probably the most normal thing in Maul's life. They don't speak like normal family, but they don't need a lot of words to connect each other. Maul sees himself as superior -and dominant- and calls Savage his apprentice, while he is the master.

Another important thing about Maul is how desperately clings to life. His life may be miserable for the most parts, but he will always choose to live; even if that means he has to beg mercy from his former master. (He has no honour. He find honour as a weakness anyway.) This deep desire to live makes him hard to kill. And he is capable of surviving in the most difficult situations.

BACKGROUND

History:

Maul was born in Dathomir as a part of Nightrothers. He was trained by the witch Nightsisters to become a warrior. His real mother 'Mother Talzin' gave Maul to Darth Sidious, after the Sith Lord saw the potential in Maul and wanted to raise him as his first apprentice. So Maul's fate was decided without giving him an option. He was trained and raised as a Sith Lord under Lord Sidious' mastery. Their presence was left in shadows, as they bid their time. Maul was sent into missions by his master in the meanwhile. He was succeeded in each of them, never leaving any witnesses behind to know of Sith.

Through the years of Maul spending under Sidious' order, he proved himself to be a very reliable apprentice. He never questioned any orders and always did what he was told. But when he was sent out to hunt down two Jedi in Tatooine, things were about to change. While Maul was successful with killing Qui-Gon Jinn, he was sliced into two from his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi. His both parts of body fell into a reactor, which was enough of a reason for people to believe he was dead. But it didn't happen that easily. The Force worked in mysterious ways. Thus, chain events happened and Maul found himself in the junk planet Lotho Minor. Here he was able to make himself a cybernetic lower body, which reminded of a giant spider. He lived in shadows and despair afterward, forgetting who he was. He became unstable, drawn into depression and melancholy. Through the years he forgot who he was and lived a savage life underground.

His misery continued for twelve years, until his brother Savage Opress found him and dragged Maul back to Mother Talzin. The witch was able to restore Maul's memories and cure his insanity. He was given new cybernetic legs, which was pretty much inhuman in every aspect. But a new path was ahead of him. Now uniting his power with his brother, Savage; Maul could work on his plan for revenge.

The brothers started to build an underground syndicate together: Shadow Collective. They mostly hired mercenaries. When they failed, they threatened them. In the end, their power started to grow. But luck wasn't always in their side. Maul was able to face Kenobi a few times during the process. As expected he failed to get his revenge. While Maul couldn't exactly put an end to Kenobi, he actually wanted the Jedi to suffer instead of a quick death. And he managed to get a grip on that with killing the ones around Kenobi; including his love interest; Duchess Satine.

At some point, Maul united his power with Pre Vizsla and the Deathwatch in order to conquer Mandalore. His plan was to be the puppet master, as Pre Vizsla ruled the planet. But Maul was betrayed and taken into custody with his brother. They both escaped and Maul challenged Pre Vizsla in a one-on-one combat. After killing the other, he claimed his dark saber and the Deathwatch. Kenobi interferred, which ended up with Maul killing Satine to put Kenobi in pain. It worked, but the unexpected happened. Darth Sidious appeared in Mandalore, finally learning of his former apprentice's whereabouts. As Maul lied about how he was doing all this in order to unite with Sidious, his former master didn't believe in it. Then the Sith Lord dueled both brothers at once, ending up killing Savage before Maul's eyes. Frustrated and seeing red, Maul challenged Sidious; but he was no match. It was something he knew from the start. When he lost, Maul had no choice but begging for mercy. Sidious didn't kill Maul, since he had plans for his former apprentice in order to get to Mother Talzin.

So Maul was captured and put in prison. He was tortured for days in order to extract any information. But he didn't yield. After Sidious left Maul under Dooku's care, Maul managed to break out from the prison and reunited with his Shadow Collective. He made plans to draw the rest of the Sith Lords into a trap. But what he didn't know he was being dragged into a major trap.

It became too personal and his Shadow Collective started to fall apart. Even with Mother Talzin's help, Maul lost this fight; which ended up with Sidious killing Mother Talzin. Maul was devastated, but he was forced to draw back with whatever loyal Shadow Collective members left in his order. This fueled his rage even further and Maul decided to make plans in order to get his revenge from the growing list he had.

In order to keep focused and think of all the possibilities ahead, Maul meditated for hours; which leaded him to see and talk to Mother Talzin in this half conscious state. Her green smoke surrounded him, as he spoke to her for a way out of things. But when he opened his eyes, Maul was somewhere else. No he was in a different time. He was in the past. He believed it was Mother Talzin's way of help. Trusting in her guide, Maul started to plot for his next move.

Lightsaber Description:

- saber-staff: This is Maul's signature weapon. It's made of two lightsabers combined at the hilt to form a double bladed weapon. The hilt is made of a silver coloured metal with black markings which remind of his warrior tattoos. Both sides have red crystals as most Sith Lords prefer. Maul can activate each side separately to his will, depending on how he wants to use it. As it's used with dual blades, this weapon requires extra concentration and care to keep track of each blade. While more difficult than swinging a regular lightsaber, it also allows more slaughter per swing. (Which is an advantage for Sith Lords.)

- darksaber: This is a weapon he acquired from Pre Vizsla after defeating him in a one-on-one challenge. But originally, this weapon was stolen from the Jedi Temple. Many Jedi died upon this ancient weapon. Unlike most other lightsabers, the Darksaber's blade was nearly flat, thin, and curved to a point more typical of a metallic sword. The black core of the blade appeared to draw in all surrounding light and color, leaving a faint white, electrical aura along its edges, it hummed with a higher-pitched whine than its more common lightsaber counterparts when the blade was active, and made a sound like a whistle when it was swung.
